PRAYER TEAM

Position Description:

Works in coordination with church pastoral staff & Prayer Team leaders to edify and cover the church, its ministries, families, and community through prayer. The team will encourage, foster and inspire the members, families, and Church ministries to pursue a deeper and more personal prayer life.

Position Details:

– Position type: Volunteer

– Filled by: Church Member

– Minimum Maturity Level: Born Again, Stable, Maturing Christian

– Spiritual gifts: Mercy, Encouragement

– Best Personality Traits: Caring, Compassionate, Loving

– Anticipated Time Commitments: Prayer Team generally meets in the Youth Room the first Sunday of the month, 45 minutes before service. Additional group meetings as scheduled.

– Be familiar with anointing oil and its purpose (James 5:14, Mark 6:13)

– Church Center App communication: Prayer requests are received via prayer request cards and a variety of methods and are posted on the Church Center App, so it is ideal, not mandatory, to have access to this app. However, if not the Church Center App, it is essential to have email access in order to facilitate prayer requests to the member.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

– Before reporting to serve in church, be sure to have clean hands, fresh breath, and a bright smile.

– Must be willing and able to respond to service at the altar, anointing individuals with oil as per discretion.

– During altar calls, as called by Pastor, stand in the appointed designated area (generally this is at the front of the church, just below the stage).

– Provide a comfortable, secure atmosphere by conveying a pleasant demeanor and a professional appearance.

– When praying for individuals at the altar, seek to discover the person’s need, doing so with gentleness, tact, and respect. Never push for details.

– When praying for individuals, focus on prayer, resisting the temptation to counsel.

– Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

– Must be well versed in leading a person in the prayer of salvation.

– Must be able to effectively minister to people who are emotionally distraught.

– Must be able to discern when a person’s prayer need exceeds what can be offered in a public setting and be able to discreetly invite the individual to the Prayer Room for additional prayer ministry (refer to professional counseling?).

– Assist Pastor and other leaders who are praying for others.

Skill and Experience:

– Must be born again, have a loving attitude, a servant’s heart and operate with a team spirit.

– Must complete Prayer Team Application

– Must be approved by the Prayer Team advisory committee.

– Must be willing to complete training and orientation before serving and when the need arises.
